Meet the Owner

Kendra R. McNeil

Kendra McNeil is the owner of the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based bookshop, We Are LIT. Her work focuses on connecting readers of all ages to their interests, creating a culture in the community around books, and developing programs and hosting events themed around literature.

"I don't view myself merely as a bookseller, but rather as a moderator in an ongoing dialogue among readers and my community...on everything from the current sociopolitical climate to how individuals can empower one another to live their best life. These, among others, are conversations created around books and I love that as a bookseller, I help move these conversations forward." 

McNeil served as a returning juror for the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards where she reviewed submissions of work from students in the West Central Michigan Region in the categories of journalism and novel writing. She also served as juror for Write Michigan, where she reviewed short-story submissions from writers across the state. In addition to operating the bookshop, McNeil works for a global tax consulting firm where she supports a team of consultants and financial experts in various business and litigation matters.  

Kendra is a lifelong reader, lover of books, and avid traveler. She enjoys outdoor adventures and is a hobbyist nature and wildlife photographer.
